| The WebQuests
The purpose of this project was to end up with a clearinghouse
of middle level social studies WebQuests aligned to state
standards. You can review the entire list
of completed WebQuests or search for specific WebQuests
using our "WebQuest
Locator."
About the project
Welcome to the WebQuest Clearinghouse created by, and for,
middle level social studies teachers. The concept for this
site started rather simply with the premise that teachers
given the right tools, training and opportunities can do incredible
things. We think you'll agree with this premise after reviewing
the social studies WebQuests featured here.
A total of 36 teachers from schools served by Educational
Service Units (ESU) 7, 16 and 18 participated in this grant
project funded by Technology Literacy Challenge Funds. The
complete proposal
is available here in pdf format. Each teacher agreed to
create two WebQuests aligned to Nebraska
social studies/history standards after receiving training
on the concepts and development of WebQuests. Additionally,
participants were paired with a partner from another ESU for
the purposes of support throughout the project and peer review.
Each participant received a new laptop computer at the beginning
of the project. An agreement was made to pay a stipend of
$300 to each participant once their two WebQuests were finished
and passed peer review based upon rubric
developed by Bernie Dodge.
At an initial orientation meeting equipment was distributed
and project contracts were signed. A list
of topics correlated to state standards was made available
and after an on-line "draft" each participant had
two topics and was prepared to begin training.
The following is a time line for the training, development
and peer review:
